A deep dive into the slow, meticulous process behind the world’s most comfortable sleepwear.
At first glance, a HIMO Samue looks simple: clean lines, relaxed form, subtle elegance.
But hidden behind that effortless calm is a painstaking 16-step process. A ritual of craft, precision, and refinement that turns bamboo into something far beyond fabric.
It’s the result of hundreds of hours of engineering, testing, and refinement, all guided by a single obsession: to create the most comforting garment you will ever own.
Let’s take you inside.
Step 1: Harvesting the Finest Mōsō Bamboo
It starts in the mountains, with mōsō bamboo, known for its long fibers and naturally high moisture content. We select only the healthiest stalks, because better raw material means fewer interventions down the line.
Step 2: Mechanical Fiber Extraction — No Chemicals
Instead of using chemical solvents like most modern manufacturers, we mechanically extract fibers. This retains the natural strength and integrity of the bamboo, while staying gentle on the environment.
Step 3–4: Heat Purification & Alkaline Cure
Fibers are purified using high heat to remove impurities without damaging texture. Then, an alkaline cure is applied over 24 hours, improving thermal regulation and giving the final fabric its ultra-smooth hand feel.
Step 5–6: Deep Cleansing & Gentle Bleaching
Our proprietary mechanical cleaning pulls finer, longer strands. Then comes a gentle bleaching process modeled after the Wazarashi method, a traditional Japanese technique that takes 3x longer, but yields noticeably softer results.
Step 7–8: Washing, Dyeing & Carding
We wash and dye under highly specific temperature and timing conditions to avoid fiber breakage and pigment blotching. Then, mechanical carding aligns the fibers to a uniform thickness, which forms the foundation of the Samue’s drape and balance.
Step 9–10: Spinning & Precision Cutting
Every thread is spun with over 60 micro-steps, some requiring manual handwork. Then, garments are laser-cut to reduce waste, misalignment, and fraying. These steps allow for better airflow and less structural stress on seams.
Step 11: Hand Assembly (Up to 3 Days Per Piece)
Each Samue is stitched by skilled craftspeople, some of whom have sewn traditional garments for decades. On average, a single set can take up to 3 full days to complete by hand.
Step 12–13: Triple-Wash, Iron, Steam, and Inspect
Every finished Samue is rewashed, steam-treated, ironed flat, and then inspected by hand. If it doesn’t pass, it’s recycled without compromise.
Step 14–16: Packaging, Feedback & Future Improvements
Only once approved are pieces carefully packaged and shipped globally. We follow up after every purchase for feedback; Not for marketing, but to feed into our own internal R&D loop. That’s how HIMO keeps improving, year after year.
Why We’ll Never Rush This Process
You could say we overdo it.
Most brands outsource or automate these steps. We obsess. We refine. We lose sleep; So you don’t have to.
Because to us, sleepwear isn’t just about softness. It’s about how your body and mind feel before rest begins.
That’s why we engineered Eversoft Bamboo™, and why we’ll never settle for shortcuts.
So the next time you wear your HIMO Samue, remember:
It took 16 steps.
Hundreds of micro-decisions.
And years of iteration.
All so you could feel… nothing.
Just peace.
